Aphidius colemani

Aphidius colemani

Aphidius colemani is a parasitic wasp that controls aphid: Myzus persicae, Myzus nicotianae, Aphis gossypii. Crops: pepper, eggplant, cucumber, rose, chrysanthemum in greenhouse.

Unit of packaging

Bottle contains 500 pupae mixed with wood-chips.

Transportation and storage

To store in the dark.

Storage temperature: 6-8°C.

Storage after receipt: 18 hours.

Application

Use preventively. Wasp seeks for prey in a radius 80 m. If pest density is high, introduce Aphidius together with other aphid predators as Adalia bipunctata, Chrysoperla carnea.

Introduction ratio

Preventively: 0,2-1 unit/m2 every 7 days. For pest control: introduce 2-4 units/m2. If pest density is high, introduce  predator every 5-6 days.

Conditions

Optimal temperature: 18-30°С, humidity: 70-80%. Low effective at temperature over 30 °С.

Appearance

Color: black with long brown legs, size: 2-3 mm.

Life cycle

Development from egg to imago lasts 10-14 days at temperature 25°C and 21°С correspondingly. During life (2-3 weeks) females lay 100-300 eggs. Wasp parasites the aphid. Develops inside host. In 7 days larva creates cocoon and attaches host to the leaf. Parasited aphid changes color to gold-brown and becomes mummified. In 4 days adult wasp appears. Sex ratio: 2:1 (more females).

Characteristics

If pest density increases sharply, apply insecticides compatible with wasp. Aphidius does not control potato aphid, therefore it is better to identify the pest correctly before wasp introduction. Do not use wasp near yellow glue traps. Wasp does not fly to blue traps.
